Sogabe-cho Hoki is a mountainous area located in the westernmost part of the town, where public transportation is limited and cars are essential for daily life. While the population is aging and declining, with few children and most working residents in their late 40s, the area is only about 40 minutes from central Kyoto—just a 30-minute train ride and a 10-minute taxi trip. This close proximity makes it an appealing destination for visitors seeking to escape the crowds and experience an untouched rural landscape. By sharing the region’s long-standing stone craftsmanship with younger generations, the project aims to encourage return migration, attract new residents, and increase interest in the community.

This region preserves traditions of stone craftsmanship, agriculture, and other ways of life that date back more than 1,500 years. The craftsmanship and culture rooted in this area have always supported the daily lives of its people.
They continue to foster new wisdom and creativity, giving rise to a culture deeply connected to the local environment.
Our organization is dedicated to preserving this long and rich heritage while welcoming people from abroad and diverse backgrounds, and engaging in activities that contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
