私たちの取り組む課題
少子高齢化、過疎化、獣害、そして災害など様々な理由により地方で荒れ地（耕作放棄地）が増加しています。
それにより獣害、山林火災、病害虫の発生、治安悪化、農地再生の難化など、更に多くの問題が引き起こされており、地方に更に人が集まりにくくなるという悪循環が生まれてしまっています。
また一方で、畜産現場では家畜の餌の多くを輸入に頼り、輸入元の地域（ブラジルなど）の森林破壊、森林火災、土壌劣化、水不足、人間用食物の価格高騰などの社会問題を引き起こし、地球温暖化や気候変動にもつながっています。
Due to various reasons such as declining birth rates, an aging population, depopulation, damage from wild animals, and natural disasters, the amount of abandoned farmland (wasteland) is increasing in rural areas.
This is leading to numerous other problems, including damage from wild animals, forest fires, outbreaks of pests and diseases, worsening public safety, and increased difficulty in farmland regeneration, creating a vicious cycle that makes it even more difficult for people to move to rural areas.
Furthermore, in the livestock industry, much of the livestock feed is imported, causing social problems in the importing regions (such as Brazil), including deforestation, forest fires, soil degradation, water shortages, and rising prices of human food, all of which contribute to global warming and climate change.
なぜこの課題に取り組むか
もーもーガーデン＠大熊町 / Moo Mow Garden @ Okuma Town
2011年3月11日東日本大震災と原発事故により、福島県双葉郡は未曾有の被害を受けました。大混乱のなか、住民達は着の身着のままの避難を余儀なくされ、動物たちは警戒区域内に取り残されました。ペットは救出が認められた一方で、家畜たちは移動を禁じられ、ほとんどが餓死していきましたが、壊れた畜舎から命からがら野山に逃げだし生き延びた牛たちがいました。その牛たちも徐々に捕獲され、飼い主は殺処分か、インフラの壊滅した立入制限区域内で飼養管理するかを迫られました。日時や人数の極度に制限された立入制限区域内の畜舎に、遠く離れた避難先から毎日大量の餌と水を運ばなくてはならない今までの飼い方は継続が困難で、多くの方が泣く泣く殺処分されていきました。｢家族同然の牛を何とか助けたい」農家たちに求められ、この区域内で牛の命をつなぐ方法を模索しました。他方、人がいなくなった後の避難区域の土地は、見る間に草木が繁茂し、野生動物の住処に。先祖代々耕してきた農地や自分の家や庭が荒れていくのを見ていられない、と悲しむ大勢の住民たち。草木も藪ももりもり食べていく牛たちの力を目の当たりにし、この力を使って、土地を守り、同時に、牛を生かし続けることができる、いう方法に辿り着きました。2013年以降現在までずっと、口コミで面積を拡大しながら、牛たちはこの地域の豊かな農地を守り続けています。
On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear accident caused unprecedented damage to Futaba District in Fukushima Prefecture. In the midst of the chaos, residents were forced to evacuate with only the clothes on their backs, leaving animals behind within the restricted zone. While pets were allowed to be rescued, livestock were prohibited from moving, and most starved to death. However, some cows managed to escape from their destroyed barns into the wilderness and survive. These cows were gradually captured, and their owners were forced to choose between euthanasia or keeping them in the restricted zone where infrastructure had been destroyed. The previous method of raising livestock, which required transporting large amounts of feed and water daily from distant evacuation sites to barns in the restricted zone with extremely limited access in terms of time and number of people, became unsustainable, and many people reluctantly euthanized their animals. Farmers pleaded with us to "do something to save our cows, which are like family," and we explored ways to keep the cows alive within this zone. On the other hand, the land in the evacuation zone, after the people had left, quickly became overgrown with vegetation and a habitat for wild animals. Many residents were saddened to see their ancestral farmland, their homes, and their gardens fall into ruin. Witnessing the power of cows to devour the vegetation and bushes, they came up with a way to use this power to protect the land and, at the same time, keep the cows alive. Since 2013, the area covered has been expanding through word of mouth, and the cows have continued to protect the rich farmland of this region.
もーもーワールド＠富岡町 / Moo Mow World @Tomioka Town
東日本大震災から10年以上経ち、全国でも災害が頻発化・甚大化する中で、福島県大熊町のもーもーガーデンへの支援も風化していきました。生き物である以上待ったなしで餌は必要なため、冬の餌作り費用を得るべく新たな収益源を探していましたが、もーもーガーデンのある帰還困難区域への立入許可は厳しく制限され、ツアーで収益化することができませんでした。そんな折、コロナ禍とウクライナ戦争という一種の世界規模の大災害に見まわれ、廃業せざるを得なくなった北海道の酪農家の方から、ポテコロプロジェクトのご縁で経由して、「ポテコロという昔から可愛がってきた乳牛を何とか助けたい」と、連絡を受けました。そこで、除染後２０１７年に避難指示が解除された後も、人が帰還できずに農地が荒れていた富岡町の里山に、２０２３年１月に突貫工事で牛舎や放牧柵等を作り、ポテコロと仲間のセブンの２頭を受け入れました。
More than 10 years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, and as disasters have become more frequent and severe throughout Japan, support for Mo-Mo Garden in Okuma Town, Fukushima Prefecture, had begun to fade. As living creatures, they need food without fail, so they were looking for a new source of income to cover the costs of making winter feed. However, permission to enter the difficult-to-return zone where Mo-Mo Garden is located was strictly restricted, making it impossible to generate revenue through tours. At that time, a dairy farmer in Hokkaido, who had been forced to close his business due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, contacted them through the Potekoro Project, saying, "I want to do something to save Potekoro, a dairy cow that I have cherished for a long time." So, in January 2023, they hastily constructed a barn and grazing fences in the Satoyama area of Tomioka Town, where farmland had been left neglected even after the evacuation order was lifted in 2017 following decontamination, and welcomed Potekoro and her friend Seven.
