The "Halloween PD Costume Walk" is Japan's first-ever Parkinson's Disease Awareness Event, organized with the aim of educating the general public about Parkinson's disease. The event will be held in Kobe on October 22nd. With the number of Parkinson's patients increasing in Japan, there is a pressing need to raise awareness and understanding of this condition.
Hosted by the NPO Control PD, the event seeks to create an inclusive and enjoyable space where Parkinson's patients and their supporters can come together to learn and engage with the disease. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy pre-walk activities such as dancing and quizzes, and during the costume walk while receiving treats. The event caters to individuals with mobility limitations by offering a "fun walk" option, ensuring everyone can participate comfortably.
The choice of a costume walk allows participants to enjoy the event while potentially concealing their condition, considering the lack of general awareness surrounding Parkinson's disease and the desire of some patients to keep it private. Through this unique event, the organizers hope to create a platform for meaningful interactions and understanding between patients, their families, and the broader community.
The organizers are urging for support and donations to make the event a success. By contributing to the "Halloween PD Costume Walk," you can help spread awareness and compassion for Parkinson's disease, making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by this condition.
Story
We are thrilled to announce the first-ever Parkinson's Disease Awareness Event in Japan, the Halloween PD Costume Walk!
Our mission is to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease among the general public, and we need your support to make this event a success.
In Japan, the number of Parkinson's patients is on the rise, with approximately 290,000 patients reported as of 2020. Shockingly, it is estimated that one in every 100 people aged 65 and above is affected by this debilitating condition. However, public understanding and interest in Parkinson's disease still fall short of what is needed.
While other countries actively organize awareness activities and events for Parkinson's, sadly, many individuals in Japan who suffer from the disease prefer to conceal it, leading to a scarcity of awareness events here.
That's why we have taken the initiative to create an enjoyable and educational event, the 'Halloween PD Costume Walk,' organized by the NPO Control PD. This event aims to bring together Parkinson's patients and their supporters to learn about the disease in a fun and interactive environment, fostering a sense of community and understanding.
During the event, participants will delight in pre-walk activities such as dancing and quizzes, and while on the costume walk, they can enjoy "Trick or Treat" snacks, all while naturally deepening their knowledge about Parkinson's disease. In the afternoon, we have arranged opportunities for more in-depth learning about the condition.
The decision to have a 'costume walk' is not just about having fun, but also to consider those who may wish to participate without revealing their status as Parkinson's patients. Due to the lack of general awareness surrounding Parkinson's disease, many individuals face prejudice and feel compelled to keep their condition hidden even at their workplaces. Additionally, some may feel hesitant to join a walk event due to mobility limitations. Therefore, we have included a 'fun walk' option, where participants can take part in a shorter walk, or simply enjoy the event while seated on a bench in costume.
Expanding knowledge about Parkinson's disease is vital for patients, their families, as well as all members of our society, and through the 'Halloween PD Costume Walk,' we aim to address this important issue and provide a valuable opportunity for understanding.
We kindly request your support and donations to make this event a success. Your contribution will help us create an inclusive and enlightening experience for everyone involved. Together, we can make a difference and bring attention to Parkinson's disease, raising compassion and support for those affected by it. Thank you for your generous contribution!
