Our Mission
Kawagoe, a historic town near Tokyo, is renowned for its authentic Edo-era culture and charm. However, many visitors face challenges navigating its treasures due to limited English resources. As volunteers at English Friendly Town, we offer free guided tours and information in English to help international tourists fully immerse themselves in Kawagoe's rich history and welcoming atmosphere.
東京に近く、本物の江戸の歴史と文化を残す川越。この魅力ある観光地に、より多くの外国人観光客に訪問していただけるよう、また観光を楽しんでいただけるよう、英語での観光案内、川越の魅力の発信などの活動を行っています。
What We Do
Free Walking Tours in English
On the second Sunday of every month, we host free walking tours guided by our knowledgeable volunteers. Besides that, every Friday to Sunday, we provide free, reservation-based guided tours in English to help visitors explore Kawagoe.
Training and International Exchange Events
We train volunteer guides and organize workshops and events that promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Community Cleanup
During our walking tours, we also help clean up the city, ensuring Kawagoe stays beautiful and litter-free.
主な活動として、月1回（第2日曜日）の無料ガイドサービス、また週末（金曜日～日曜日）の予約制ガイドサービスの提供、ガイドの育成（養成）、ワークショップなどの国際交流などのイベントも行っています。
また、定期の活動日には市内の清掃活動を行って、街の美化にも協力しています。
Why we are tackling this issue
Japan is seeing a surge in international tourists, but many cities, including Kawagoe, lack sufficient English-language support.
By offering English-friendly services, we:
- Make Kawagoe accessible and enjoyable for non-Japanese speakers.
- Showcase the hospitality and warmth of Kawagoe's local community.
- Help visitors connect with the town’s unique heritage and culture.
近年、日本には訪日外国人観光客数が大幅に増えています。一方、未だに多くの観光地では英語での十分や情報が提供されていない実状があります。
我々は、多くの外国人に川越という魅力ある観光都市を知ってもらい、また訪問された外国人が心行くまで観光を楽しんでいただけるよう、英語での情報提供を行っています。
How donations are used
Our tours and events are entirely free for participants, thanks to the volunteer efforts of our members. Your generous contributions help us:
- Sustain and expand our free guided tours and workshops.
- Train more guides to meet growing demand.
- Organize community events and maintain Kawagoe's clean and welcoming environment.
