私たちの活動は、子どもたちや若者が、身近な自然の豊さや社会の課題に出会い、「知る」ことから「探究する」、そして「行動する」へと踏み出す機会をつくることから始まります。

そのプロセスの中で育まれるのは、正解を求める力ではなく、自分が心を寄せることが何なのかを知り、自分なりの問いを持ち、他者や自然とつながりながら未来を選び取っていく力です。

Roots & Shootsのプログラムでは、人・動物・環境という3つの視点から地域を見つめ、コミュニティマッピングやフィールドワークを通して、子どもたちは自分の関心と社会の課題を結びつけていきます。

そして、小さなアクションを起こすことで、「自分にもできる」という実感を得ていきます。その一つひとつの経験が、やがて周囲の人々へと広がり、社会に新しい選択肢を生み出していきます。

未来は、誰か特別な人が変えるものではなく、一人ひとりの行動の積み重ねによって形づくられていくものだからです。

『Letters With Jane』Peace Day特別ハガキ＋ステッカー

9月21日は、国連が定める「国際平和デー（Peace Day）」です。世界各地を訪れ、多くの人と出会い続けたジェーン・グドール博士は、どれほど忙しい日々のなかでも、移動中の飛行機などで一人ひとりに手書きの手紙をつづり、感謝や思いを届けることを大切にしていました。その姿勢を受け継ぎ、JGI Japanでは、国際平和デーにあわせた企画「ジェーンとつづる｜Letters with Jane」企画を展開します。

平和は、遠い世界の出来事だけではありません。身近な誰かの幸せを願い、その思いを言葉にして届けることもまた、よりやさしく、平和な世界へ向かう小さな一歩になるはずです。

今回の企画のために、2種類のオリジナルポストカードを制作しました。美しく温かいアートピースを描いたのは、神奈川県鎌倉市で自然や生き物を見つめながら、環境や平和への思いを作品にしている11歳の井出陽人さんです。そして、陽人さんの絵に、ジェーンが生涯を通して伝え続けた、平和や希望につながる彼女の言葉を添えました。

Our work begins by creating opportunities for children and young people to encounter the richness of nature around them and the challenges facing their communities—moving from learning, to exploring, and ultimately, to taking action.

Through this process, they develop not the ability to find the “right” answer, but the ability to discover what they care about, form their own questions, and make choices about the future while building connections with other people and the natural world.

The Roots & Shoots program encourages young people to look at their communities through three interconnected lenses: people, animals, and the environment. Through community mapping and fieldwork, they begin to connect their own interests with the challenges facing society.

By taking even a small action, they gain the confidence to say, “I can make a difference, too.” Each experience can inspire others and, over time, create new possibilities for society.

Because the future is not shaped by a select few—it is shaped by the cumulative actions each of us takes, one step at a time.

“Letters with Jane” Peace Day Postcard Set + Original Sticker

September 21 is the International Day of Peace, or Peace Day, established by the United Nations.

Throughout her life, Dr. Jane Goodall traveled around the world and met countless people. No matter how busy she was, she made time to write personal letters by hand—even while traveling by plane—to express her gratitude and share her thoughts with individuals.

Inspired by this spirit, JGI Japan is launching “Letters with Jane,” a special initiative to mark the International Day of Peace.

Peace is not only about events happening in distant parts of the world. Wishing for the happiness of someone close to us—and putting that feeling into words—can also be a small but meaningful step toward a kinder and more peaceful world.

For this initiative, we have created two original postcards featuring beautiful and heartfelt artwork by 11-year-old Haruto Ide. Based in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Haruto observes the natural world and its living creatures, expressing his hopes for the environment and peace through his art. Each postcard pairs one of his illustrations with words of peace and hope that Jane shared throughout her life.

The Peace Day postcards will be sent to the first 100 eligible supporters, including monthly supporters. They will be available as a gift for one-time donations only from September 21 to October 21, 2026.
