About Us
Africa is a continent of immense potential, driven by its rapidly growing youth population. While interest in Africa is gradually increasing in Japan, the Japanese public's understanding of African nations remains quite limited. Conversely, for talented youth in Africa, opportunities to learn about and engage with Japan are equally scarce.
Recognizing this critical gap, the Africa-Asia Youth Nest (AAYN) was established in 2023. We are dedicated to creating platforms for intellectual exchange between the people of Japan and African nations. Through these opportunities, we aim to foster deeper mutual understanding and support the creation of new businesses, social awareness, and innovative value through international collaboration.
Our Mission
We operate across various fields guided by the following four core missions:
- [Create] Host cross-generational and cross-industry networking events to create opportunities for connection and collaboration among youth with a mutual interest in Japan and Africa.
- [Act] Nurture aspiring changemakers and support the launch of projects with a strong social impact.
- [Lobby] Collaborate with governments and domestic/international organizations to ensure the voices of Japanese and African youth are reflected in policy-making.
- [Build] Forge partnerships with corporations and organizations to expand the resources and opportunities available to our youth.

(Anniversary meetup)

TICAD(Youth TICAD)
To increase the number of young people engaging with Japan and Africa and to expand their potential, we provide the following platforms and opportunities:
- Annual Anniversary Meetup A vibrant gathering where Japanese and African individuals—whether already active in Japan-Africa relations or looking to get involved—can meet, inspire one another, and broaden their horizons.
- Africa Conversation Series (*Exclusive for Supporting Members) Small-group salon sessions designed to deepen understanding of Africa through intimate dialogue. Participants engage with experts across various fields, including African Ambassadors to Japan and professors of literature.
- Youth TICAD Held in conjunction with the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), this event provides a vital platform for youth changemakers from Japan and Africa to connect, deepen mutual understanding, and experience hands-on co-creation.
- Formulation and Execution of "Youth Agenda 2055" In alignment with the 9th TICAD held in 2025, we formulated the "Youth Agenda 2055"—policy recommendations outlining the future of Japan and Africa—in collaboration with organizations such as the Africa Diaspora Network Japan. We are currently taking dynamic actions in partnership with international organizations and governments to implement these recommendations.
- Ubuntu Hack (*Launching FY2026) A co-creation platform for business and tech talents launching in 2026, offering a highly practical, hands-on collaborative experience. "Ubuntu" is a concept originating from the Zulu language of South Africa, meaning "compassion towards others." It represents the philosophy of coexistence—the belief that a person is only a person through their connection to others.

Why We Tackle This Social Issue
Africa, driven by its rapidly growing youth population, holds immense potential. However, opportunities for young people in Japan and Africa to connect and learn together remain severely limited. This "opportunity gap" is the very challenge we are addressing. When the next generation of leaders from both regions meet and deepen their mutual understanding, it lays the vital foundation for solving global social issues and creating new value. To nurture future changemakers, we are determined to bridge this gap and connect our youth.
How Your Funds Will Be Used
Your generous support will directly fund platforms where Japanese and African youth can "co-create." Specifically, the funds will be utilized for the operational costs of "Ubuntu Hack," our new business and tech co-creation program launching this year, as well as for organizing "Youth TICAD" and our Anniversary Meetup. Additionally, we will provide travel and participation subsidies for motivated youth. By removing financial barriers, we ensure that as many future leaders as possible can access these transformative opportunities.
