Activity Report After the Disaster
Around 4:10 PM on January 1st, a significant earthquake occurred in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture.
Sugawara, the representative of the company Grundtvig CEO, and Dr.Beniya, the representative of the medical corporation Orange Home Care Clinic, collaborated and decided to implement disaster support.
As of January 2nd, the road conditions were not suitable for on-site access, leading us to postpone our visit. However, on the following day, January 3rd, we safely arrived at the site and commenced disaster support activities.
Behind the scenes, the staff of Grundtvig, amidst managing caregiving facilities, purchased essential items such as food and winter clothing from local supermarkets for disaster support.
On January 5th, a vehicle from the headquarters of Grundtvig in Kanagawa, loaded with relief supplies, was dispatched along with several staff members.
At this point, the unavailability of functioning toilets became a significant issue at evacuation centers.
Due to the inability of evacuees to use toilets securely, individuals began to endure the discomfort of holding back bowel movements and urination, posing potential health risks.
The local team, led by Sugawara, introduced portable toilets commonly used in home caregiving and medical settings. These portable toilets can be used in places without water supply, and by adding solidifying agents, they can be disposed of as combustible waste.
In the initial days after the disaster, amidst ongoing aftershocks, our team continued activities aimed at establishing an environment where evacuees could have the basic necessities for daily life.
