Birthday Donation Campaign for Education

私は12月18日に22歳の誕生日を迎えます。
今年は、私への誕生日のお祝いのお気持ちを、一般社団法人 STUDY FOR TWOへの寄付という形でお願いしたいと思っています。

◯私がこのキャンペーンを始めたきっかけ (Why did I start this campaign?)

22歳の誕生日、それは私にとって学生最後の誕生日になります。
これまでの生活で私はたくさんの人に恵まれ、機会に恵まれて生きてきました。
友人や周りの方々、一人一人に感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。
いつも本当にありがとうございます。

私が今回このキャンペーンを始めたのは、私が22年間の人生で一番感謝したいものがあったからです。
それは両親にもらった「教育を受ける機会」です。

私が生まれてすぐ、両親はしまじろうのおもちゃを買ってくれました。
幼稚園ではひらがなを教えてもらい、友達に手紙をかくことができるようになりました。
小学校には毎日通っても読み切れないほどの本があり、その時から私は本が大好きです。
中学、高校時代は0限目から7限目まで毎日授業がありました。
放課後もわかるまで先生はずっと廊下で質問に付き合ってくれました。
大学は学びたいことが際限なく学べる空間で、先生方だけでなく、
大学を支えている地域や県外、海外の大学や企業からも勉強させていただきました。
そして今、私は大学院に入学しさらに専門性の高い学びを得られる環境にいます。

意識せずとも享受していた多くの教育を受ける機会、すばらしい環境のおかげで、家と公園が世界のすべてだった小さな私は、広い世界を知り、日本や世界の問題にまで視野を広めることができました。
今の私が自分の夢を持てるということ、世界中に友達がいることは
勉強を通して得たものに他ならないと考えています。

そこでこの学生最後の誕生日には、そのご恩をこれから私と一緒に世界を作っていく未来の学生のためになることをすることで送りたいと考えました。

This week I turn be 22 and that will be the last birthday as a student. I’ve been blessed with lots of people and opportunities in my life and I cannot thank each of you enough.

I’ve started this campaign because I wanted to thank the biggest opportunity that I had given in my 22 years.
That was “educational opportunity”.

My parents bought me educational toys as I was a baby.
I learned Hiragana (Japanese letters) in kindergarten and I learned how to write a letter to my friend.
The library of the elementary school had uncountable number of books and I’ve loved books since then.
My junior high and high school had classes from 0 to 7th periods everyday but teachers answered to my questions after school too.
The university was the place where you can study as much as you want and not only professors but also universities or companies in/ out of my city or country helped me to study.
Now I’m studying at the graduate university and I can study in the specialized field.

Thanks to a lot of educational opportunities and great environment to study that I have been given, the girl whose world was just her home and the park in front of it learned about the big world outside and grew up to think about her country and the world.
I can have my own dream and I have many friends around the world right now but this was not possible if I couldn’t have educational opportunities in my life.

This is why I started this campaign.
As we celebrate my last birthday as a student, I would like to thank the people who gave me educational opportunities and make the day better for future students too.



◯なぜSTUDY FOR TWOなのか (Why STUDY FOR TWO?)

子どもの教育に関わる団体は数多くあり、今回どの団体にするかを決めるのは簡単ではありませんでした。
私がSTUDY FOR TWOを選んだのには２つの理由があります。

1つはSTUDY FOR TWOの活動は、私のような全国の大学生や高校生にこそ知ってもらいたい団体だと思ったからです。
STUDY FOR TWOでは学校で学期末に不要になった教科書を回収し、それを安価で必要とする国内の学生に売る活動を行っています。
それによって得た利益で、海外の十分に教育が受けられない地域の子ども達の教育支援をしています。日本のような先進国の学生と途上国の勉強したい子ども達をつなぐ活動でもあり、私の友人たちにも是非知ってもらいたいと考えました。

2つ目は、キャンペーンを通して身近な人の活動を応援したいと考えたからです。
STUDY FOR TWOは九州大学に支部があり、私の妹は今その支部長をしています。
前年度中心的に活動していたメンバーには同じ学年の尊敬できる友人もいます。

今年の夏、妹は家からスーツケースを学校に持って行き、夜になると持って帰り、という生活を続けていました。
しばらくして九州支部がその学期に全国で一番本を集めた支部になったと聞きました。
活動に関わっている学生は自ら途上国の問題について勉強したり、
支援をしている現地のコミュニティに行くこともあります。
途上国の子どもたちだけでなく、この活動に関わることが私の妹にとっては大きな学びとなっていると思っています。そんな妹を含め、頑張っている身近な人の応援にこのキャンペーンが結びつけば、と私は考えました。

There are many organizations addressing the educational opportunities and it was not easy to choose which to support through this campaign. I have two reasons why I chose STUDY FOR TWO.

First, STUDY FOR TWO is the organization which I would like my friends whose are mostly students to know through this campaign.
They are collecting textbooks that students don’t use anymore after exams and sell it with discount price for the students in need. The profit goes to the children overseas who has limited access to education. This activity connects students in developed countries and the children in developing countries so I wanted to introduce this to the people around me.

The second reason is because I wanted to support the ones who I’m familiar with. STUDY FOR TWO has a blanch in Kyushu University and my little sister is the current manager of the blanch.
The former manager was one of my friends who I am very proud of.

My sister often carried a suitcase to university this summer and she brought it back home during the week.
After a while she told me that the group in Kyushu University collected almost 2,000 books which was the biggest number in Japan.
The students participating in this activities studies on the problems in developing countries by themselves and they sometimes goes to the support destinations too.
I think that not just for the children in developing countries but for my sister, the participation to this activity itself is meaningful as well.
Including my sister, I hope that this campaign somehow support the people who are trying to address issues in education.
